I, actually, with my smile pre-Invisalign there were certain things that I wanted to change, but didn’t really kind of notice them as much as when it was pointed out to me how quickly and easily the process could be for the change that I was looking into. So, you know, I did Invisalign, goodness, for just underneath a year and I look back at pictures and I say, “Oh, my goodness, I cannot believe that I, actually, went that long and didn’t start this journey sooner.” So, that’s honestly my only regret is not starting the practice sooner with Invisalign and, you know, I do thank Dr. John and his team for subtly pointing out the fact that you are here and your smile can be this, it’s super achievable and this is what it’s going to take.
I am so happy with my smile now, and I’m always reaching out to Dr. John about you know teeth whitening practices and any new tricks that he has or anything along those lines because now the trust is there. You know, now I’m like, “Is there anything else that you can point out that maybe I’m not noticing, again? That way when I look back, again,” but overall super confident in my smile. And, I think, that’s so important to be able to say it wasn’t that I wasn’t in love with my smile before, but now I really notice the change and I have Dr. Athos and the team to thank.
Some of the teeth whitening options that I have tested out is coming here and kind of seeing if I could brighten my smile. So, I did a smile brightening treatment with the dental office here as an appointment, and then they send you home with teeth whitening when you do have Invisalign. So, the end process with Invisalign is getting some retainers that are going to maintain the smile that you just achieved. So, with those retainers that you just pop in simply at the end or at the beginning, I should say of your night as you’re going to sleep and you can put in the teeth whitening right directly into those trays, and so I have had great success with those and, again, just another great opportunity to continue to maintain everything that we have worked so hard to achieve.

I was here and I saw the sign in the back that they were offering that and so I went ahead and said I’ll make an appointment. I was going to other places for it but I felt more confident here just with it being a doctor’s office. It just felt a little bit better to come and have it done here while I get my cleaning. It’s a… you know, very…worked well and Vanessa took very good care of me. She talked me through everything and she focused and targeted on my areas and what made me feel confident. Vanessa knows exactly what I want just to kind of ease some of the, you know, fine lines and wrinkles that are happening. And yeah, and it’s exactly what I needed. It’s actually kind of fun. You look forward to your appointment because you want to see everybody here because the staff is amazing. And yeah, Vanessa takes care of me and it’s very simple. You’re here for not even 20 minutes and she talks, she knows what you need, she knows exactly. The process is very easy and it’s very smooth.

The quality of care here is amazing. And being in the healthcare industry myself, I love everything that they practice and preach because your teeth, your mouth, your gums actually have a direct correlation to heart health, and being in the fitness industry, they really go hand in hand.
In this position, they do have an opportunity to, you know, sell you on the next best thing, and you don’t feel that when you come here. It really is all about you, and what they’ll do is they’ll make suggestions or recommendations or ask you what you love, what do you not love. And you really could have that perfect smile. It is so close to bringing your vision and what you’re looking for to life with the team here at Athos Dental.
You know, Dr. John specifically, he will analyze my smile and say, “Here is what I would love to enhance about your smile. Have you ever looked into that?” And I’m like, “My goodness, it’s like he’s in my head. How did he know?” And it’s very subtle.
Another thing, too, I have had the Invisalign journey with Athos Dental, and the process was really scary at first, and I don’t know why I was so scared. You know, first thing that comes to individual’s mind is always the cost, the timeframe, and is this really going to work, right?
And with everything that… The whole entire team and the whole entire staff has been completely involved throughout that journey from, you know, picking up my next set of trays when they’re ready at the office to just popping in the chair for a second. Sometimes I don’t know if it’s just to say hello or to really actually check to make sure that the tray is all good and it fits, but they have a full dental plan for Invisalign, and it’s been such a game-changer for me.
So with that process, it has really over exceeded my expectations. And I don’t know why I was fearful of the process, in general, but it’s just been a great journey and they were with me every step of the way.

I began seeing Dr. Henry Cubbon. He had begun his practice in Harvey, Illinois, shortly after the Second World War. We had friends in the medical community in Harvey at the time, and we were referred to him, come to find out my mother had gone to high school with him. As time went on, I kept going to Dr. Henry Cubbon, and Todd, his son, as a teenager, would oftentimes be in the office that they had at the time, working on cars or whatever, so I became acquainted with him. And then when he began practicing, I’d either utilize him or his dad. And then when his dad retired, went on with Todd, and he moved out to the southern sub way out south here, and we continued to commute to be with him. When he got in partnership with Dr. Athos, of course, we began coming here. It’s just kind of a tradition, but there’s only been three dentists that ever have their hand in my mouth, and those were the three. Obviously, it’s carrying out a tradition, but people are extremely friendly. I feel like they’re extremely competent technicians, and hey, you know, if it isn’t broke, don’t fix it. I drive by, gotta be 15, 20 dentists to get here. But I feel like, you know, initially I was apprehensive when the partnership was formed, but they’ve proven that it’s worthy, because I know what I’m gonna get, and I know I’m gonna be treated very humanely and comfortably, and not have to pay out of the market to get the job done right.

I consider Dr. Athos part of my family, and I truly mean that. He has always been there. I trust him with my life. So I can’t say that about many people, but I’m serious when I say that. It’s a relationship like a family member. If I need something, I call him and he is always there for me. I am a nurse by trade, and what I’ve always told my patients is, you have to trust your health-care providers. You have to trust in them, who they are. You have to believe in them as well. So all of the suggestions and anything that I needed done with my teeth, there was always this discussion, and I always trusted in, you know, John and what he suggested to me as well. With that, a little story to that as well, you know, I would call up for an appointment. They would always fit me in no matter what time it was. We’ll get you in here. We’ll get you in there. I think it was 2016, and it was a Thanksgiving morning, and I texted John and I said, listen, like I think one of my veneers fell off. This is before I had my hybrid done. Yeah, we had Thanksgiving together that morning. He came in before dinner with his family. I came in before dinner with my family. He fixed me up on Thanksgiving. That’s what kind of practice this is. There’s no way other people can say that. So that’s what they’re about.

My wife had an issue. We were over in Indiana on a Saturday morning, and had a major dental problem. We raced over here and walked in the door, and they immediately took care of her. So it’s, uh, that kind of service is extremely difficult to find in any profession these days. So, I feel like they’re willing to go out of their way, if there’s a need. I’ve had some interesting experiences over the years with both their practices. In fact, I was telling the hygienist the last time I was in here, we moved to Tennessee for a period of time, and my daughter, at the time was having, we had braces through Dr. Henry Kavan, and they had to be adjusted, and I wanted so much to have him follow through, my wife and I put her on an airplane in Nashville, flew her to Chicago. My parents picked her up, brought her to the office, got the adjustment, and we reversed the procedure. So I, you know, if, if I know it’s a good thing, I’ll go out of my way to make sure it happens. I don’t recommend anything that I don’t have personal, excellent experience with. So, based on the results that I’ve had here, myself, I would highly recommend them to anyone. It’s, it’s at least worth a try. Try it for yourself. You’ll be sold.

Over the years, as you age, your teeth start to move. And I wasn’t wearing a retainer, or anything like that. So over time my teeth started to move. And so, we sat down one on one, and we had a nice conversation about Invisalign, and that he thought it would make me feel more confident if I went ahead and did this. And I made the decision to do it, and it turned out it was very easy, very smooth process. I came in and I got my trays every two weeks, and I wore them. Then, before I knew it, it was over with. And they were checked through the process, through the whole thing, and it was awesome. It was great. Great. I do love my smile. I feel like, between that, and my regular checkups, and cleanings, I feel like I do have a great smile. And it’s all due to Ethan SuntilAthos Dental. From teeth cleaning, to getting a cavity filled, or just checking, talking, just anything, in general, that is due to any type of dental work, they’re amazing. I mean, I feel very confident. They take care of my kids. We just had an incident with my daughter, who her partial came off, and he got her in. He knew right away that she’s a teenager, and she did not want to go to school with a chipped tooth. And so, he took her in the next day, and he fixed it.

I was in a bike accident when I was 21 and I landed on my face and so I lost several teeth. So what we tried to do in that timeframe was we did a bridge, we did crowns on the side, we just kept going until we couldn’t go any further. They were becoming a little bit brittle and he said, you know, instead of going further back, I think it would be a great option for you to look into this hybrid device. He went through it with me, took some time to decide, talked to my family members because it was a process and they’re very upfront and transparent about that. It is not what you are seeing on the TV commercials. It is a process. So you know, soft diet and you get a little swelling in your face, you need a little bit of time off. So they went through all of that with me. Very…again, very transparent. And I knew that this was the device for me and I’m in love with them.
I knew that it was…eventually I was going to have to have some type of intervention done. And I thought I’m still young. Let me get it done when I’m in prime health and enjoy and not have to go for one more crown financially as well. I mean, I was still…crowns are not cheap. So in the financial aspect of it as well, let me just roll over this investment because that’s really what it was. It was an investment. I take care of them the exact same way that I take care of…I took care of my original teeth. So I water pick and I floss and I brush and go on with my day. He has the resources to make sure that it is a very smooth process. He has very specific people that measure and color. All of that is involved. Again, it is a process and he actually will pair you with somebody who he believes is best for you. So not everybody has the same personality or wants the same thing. It’s very specific and he is the person that is able to make sure that it’s successful.

For years, John would ride me about my smile and say, “Hey, bud, we can do better on that. We can do better. We can fix this.” And, you know, I’d take it half-hearted. I’d listen to him. And then he’d come back in six months, he’d say it again but in a respectful manner, never that I felt that he was trying to push or sell me on anything. But after a while, you start looking in the mirror, and you’re like, “Yeah, I have some crooked teeth.” And as a child, I never had braces. And John said, “Hey, we can fix these things. We can make your smile look much better.”
After a while, I just bought into what John was saying. I said, “Hey, let’s try and do this.” And I’m very pleased with the results. I look at photos from, you know, 10 years ago, before I had the Invisalign to now, and I actually can see…I see what my bottom row of teeth looked like. I’m so happy that, you know, John encouraged me to do it. Again, I think it was a wonderful investment that John encouraged me to do, and I know that he was doing that to try and help me out personally with my life. Your smile can build a lot of confidence. Your smile can change a lot of things in your day-to-day life with the people you deal with. And if you have a confident smile that looks good, you can have a lot of positive things that happen for you. And John has helped me with that.
So I don’t want to say that I was embarrassed about my smile, but, you know, in photos, it was very easy for me to be closed-lipped and to not have my teeth out. Now, I don’t even think when I take a photo. I have a group of friends that I play golf with that are constantly posting pictures on Instagram and, you know, other social media sites. And now I don’t even think when I’m in these pictures. Hey, I’m smiling. And, you know, these pictures were outside in the daylight, you see people’s teeth. I think maybe there’s a level of confidence, or maybe it’s just I don’t have to even worry about it anymore. Just this relaxed state that I don’t even think twice about when someone asks me to smile.
